Our Engine, Our Heart
our heart pumps blood- the river inside of us all. In this "river" there are boats- cells- that carry energy through out our body. The tunnels they flow through are called veins and arteries. The veins-blue hold the "dirty" blood that needs new oxygen. The arteries-red have fresh clean oxygen filled blood. When we excercise our heart pumps faster because we are using the enrgy more quickly. This too is the reason we breath quicker. We are using the oxygen ( in the blood) at a very rapid pace.
We saw how the heat pumps the blood into the arteries. Just like the balloon pushed the liquid up into the straw when it was squeezed, so to, our heart pumps blood by 'squeezing'.
