The caterpillars crawl into their cacoons (which they themselves made). Then after some time, they emerge as butterflies- their wings having been formed from some of the cacoon itself.
We had a blast (as you can clearly see) feeding our caterpillars. It takes a lot to satisfy these little critters. After they were done eating all they possibly could- they perfer leaves- we put them into cacoons and left them on our tree. We cant wait until they come out of their cacoons and turn into butterflies.
We told the children that we were having butterflies for lunch. Daniel looked very unhappy about that, "I dont like to eat bugs!" he exclaimed. (He was very much relieved to find out that they were only home-made, pretend butterflies.
